Ruslan Vashkevich
Born in 1961 in Minsk. In 1984, he graduated from the Republican Boarding School for Music and Fine Arts (now the Akhremchik Gymnasium-College of Art). In 1992, he graduated from the Belarusian State Theatre and Art Institute (now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts), Department of Monumental and Decorative Arts, under the tutelage of Gavriil Vashchenko. Following his graduation, he was invited for a six-month internship in Hanover, Germany—a trip he still considers a defining moment in his career. "I was able to see firsthand what was happening in contemporary European art," he notes. "I immersed myself in a normal, proper context." Later, he completed residencies in France (Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, 1999 and 2007) and Switzerland (Künstlerhaus Boswil residency/grant, 2001).
Vashkevich has been participating in exhibitions since 1989.
