Pyotr Belenok
Pyotr Belenok was born on July 14, 1938, in the village of Korogod, Kiev Region.
He started his art education at the Kiev Art School and then continued at the Kiev State Art Institute, from which he graduated in 1963 specializing as a sculptor.
In 1967, he relocated to Moscow and was accepted into the USSR Union of Artists in the same year. At the end of the 1960s, a cardinal turn occurred in his creative work: from official art, he transitioned to creating pioneering pictorial works, which he himself ironically called "panic realism." In the 1970s–1980s, Belenok actively participated in unofficial exhibitions of Moscow artists. Among the key expositions of that time were exhibitions in the "Beekeeping" pavilion and the "House of Culture" at VDNKh (1975), as well as at 28 Malaya Gruzinskaya Street. In the 1970s, his works were also demonstrated in Switzerland, the FRG, Great Britain, Italy, the USA, and France.
The first and only lifetime solo exhibition of Pyotr Belenok in Moscow was held in 1972 at the famous jazz cafe "Blue Bird". Recognized in the West, the artist repeatedly received invitations to work abroad, but preferred to stay in Russia.
Pyotr Belenok died in Moscow in 1991.
