Ruslan Vashkevich
Ruslan Vashkevich was born on February 12, 1966, in Minsk. In 1984, he graduated from the Republican Boarding School for Music and Fine Arts (now the Ivan Akhremchik Gymnasium-College of Art).
In 1992, he earned a degree from the Belarusian State Theatre and Art Institute (now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts), Department of Monumental and Decorative Arts, studying under Gavriil Vashchenko. Following his graduation, he was invited for a six-month internship in Hanover, Germany. The artist considers this trip a defining moment for his career: "I was able to see with my own eyes what was happening in contemporary European art. I immersed myself in a normal, proper context." Later, he completed residencies in France (Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, 1999, 2007) and Switzerland (Künstlerhaus Boswil, 2001).
He has participated in art exhibitions since 1989. In 1995, he became a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists. In 2005, he was among the first artists to represent the National Pavilion of the Republic of Belarus at the 51st Venice Biennale.
He lives and works in Minsk.
