Born in 1959 in Sevastopol. He graduated from Art School No. 50 and studied in private studios in Moscow, as well as under the Saint-Henri residency grant in France. He later enrolled in the Moscow Institute of Civil Aviation Engineers. Over the years, he held a diverse range of positions, working as an aviation instructor-engineer, a liquor store porter, an excavator at the Panticapaeum archaeological site, a wind machine operator at Mosfilm Studios, and a staff member at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts.
